It’s no secret that laundry is a time-consuming process. It’s an activity that is, unfortunately, a necessity. We’ve all had the experience of realising we don’t have clean work clothes, or that we need to wash the kids’ clothes for school or extracurricular activities. That’s when things become inefficient.
Studies show that people spend 4 hours each week taking care of their clothes.
For some households, laundry days spread throughout the week, while others have a dedicated day just for laundry. It all depends on each case: if families can’t separate whites from colours and need to keep up, laundry can be a long process.
How much time do people spend doing laundry?
A study by ARM & HAMMER carried out a survey examining how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected cleaning habits and household chores. Respondents are now more likely to help with household tasks than before. The results revealed that 39 percent of the surveyed parents said their children have been more involved in doing housework than before the pandemic.
In that same period of time, 59 percent said that laundry has been divided more equally between them and their partner.
In the last decade, family dynamics seem to be changing: 80 percent of respondents believe household chores are being divided more equally between different couples, with millennials being the most likely to think so.
A quarter of participants admitted to having done a bad job on purpose at some point, hoping to avoid doing the task again. A third of respondents said their partner has tried that tactic, while 14% said both have done it. Men were almost twice as likely as women to have tried it.
The power of teamwork: 85 percent of respondents agree that cleaning and doing household chores with a partner allows them to do it better.
